Woke up in Portland

Woke up in Portland

Man oh Man

Can’t tell ya

Where we began

A trail of tales

Between here and the sand

Now we’re back on the road

To make our stand

There’s salt in the trees

From the ocean’s breeze

And I just wanna drive

               …

Leave all this pain behind

I see the same

In my brother’s eyes

So we’ll just drive

To the other side

Climb these trees

Inside our mind

Lock the world outside

For the meantime

There’s salt in the trees

From the ocean’s breeze

And I just wanna drive

               …

Leave all this pain behind

Landrew said that music

Would set us free

Us sick ones

Lost on this highway sea

And I believe

So we’ll turn him up

Head for Aberdeen

There’s salt in the trees

From the ocean’s breeze

And I just wanna drive

               …

Leave all this pain behind

            …

Leave it … all behind

Etching LOVE into the Wood of the Universal tree of existence

1 Apr

Planet Landrew

I know your kind

Your soul leaves footprints in the snow

Of the heart on your sleeve

Leaving a trail

Few follow

Or ever see

The blood of your being

Dripping from your words

Breadcrumbs for some

Willing to walk that winding path

(Food for me)

And my star stretched thoughts

Your smile reminds me

Of songs we wrote in another life

Your pain –

The foundation for “pain ting”

You were a painter

Full of a pain that had to live in you

I saw the story in your eyes

That could only partially be told

The rest …  a playful placation

To the world around you

A gift

The star blazed trail

Your comet tail left us

Burning brilliantly into the endless night

A path to Olympus

Paved with your melodies and dreams

Valentine’s Day poem

15 Feb

Barbed wire fences

Run the length of my heart

Like a field in the west

Keep out

Written all over my chest

No way in

No way to protest

It’s been locked down

For quite some time

By no fault

Or all of mine

Can’t get messages in

Or out

Feelings barred

To remove all doubt

No love quakes

Shall strike here again

This heart is safe

From an untimely end

So it beats on

With a hitch in it’s step

Never knowing

How much blood it has left

But well aware of

The level of love

No more to spare

It is precious like air

 Even though

Nothing gained

Without the venture

This heart retired

After the last adventure

There is no spoon …

What do you find at the fork in the road?

Character #1: “I’d change everything for love”

The traveling habits of love

19 Nov

You say you want love
But love isn’t buying you today
Love knows when and where to stay

And your house is empty

Little Diddy

22 Oct

The Honey

Time doesn’t change anything

We’re still the same people

Underneath it all

Life just beats us up and down

But we shake it off

And carry on

There’s a baby cryin’ next door

Cause it doesn’t know why not to yet

But it will

There ain’t no sun brighter than any other day

It just depends on how you’re lookin’ at it

That’s all

Tomorrow is just another long word for hope

Today’s where the honey is

Trust me friend

Today’s where the honey is

Today’s where the honey is

Falling

17 Oct

It happens in the fall

when the leaves

make a play on these words

when my heart plays along

And

it seems we are all falling

into a memory

Or

into what will be

leaving one question

Will you be there with me …

 even briefly?

If you were mine

for even a minute

I would pause all 60

of those seconds

one by one

till the last one

Then I will run

to next autumn

and wait for you

to fall into me again

The target

It’s not about money, power, or size …

Fortune is found keeping your eyes on the prize

Where did you lose your keys?

19 Sep

The intelligent green space

Between your mind’s eye and I

The longing and pride

Sojourning then away

The lichen parade

The lost holiday behind the lines of

“the little guy” grocery aisles

Princess brides and time machines

Take us back to better moments

Spread out like stars floating in a lonely lake

In the midsection of night

Lost lanterns still squeeze light onto darkened corridors

Down below the “real” world

Where they still mine for peace of mind

Digging

Always digging

Never ending …

Compromises lead to unwanted surprises

Disguising true intention

A popular rendition

Of a song once swallowed and digested

Not just a one night investment

The lights are on

And you never actually lost your keys

You’ve had them all along
